Historical Materials Preservation House in Nara

There is a rice cake shop named Nakatanido famous for high-speed pounding steamed rice to make rice cake in Nara.
There is always a crowd in front of the shop.
However, in the past few days there are not many people in front of the shop.
Last week the function of Kansai International Airport dropped sharply due to a strong typhoon, but it seems to be affecting it.
The number of tourists walking Sanjo street is also decreasing.
Nakatanido is located at the northern end of the Mochiidono Shopping Mall.
You go down the Mochiidono Shopping Mall to the south, go through Shimomikado Shopping Mall, and then cross the Naramachi-odori street, as soon as you have gone about 50 meters there is Historical Materials Preservation House.

A large number of valuable historical materials mainly in early modern are preserved in the house, and a part of the collection historical materials are exhibited.

There are permanent exhibitions, the feature exhibition "Annual event of Naramachi", the planned exhibition and the special exhibition.

The theme will change every month at this exhibition.
In the period from September 4 to September 30 in the exhibition theme "Basho's haiku and Yamato sights", Nara's sights are introduced by the haiku wrote by Basho.
(Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables.)

October 16 - November 11, 2018: Ceremony of opening Shosoin
November 13 - December 24, 2018: Kasuga Wakamiya On-matsuri Festival

"Obamaza theater - from a playhouse to a movie theater -"
There was a popular theater called Obamaza in Naramachi.
At first it was a playhouse theater, but in 1920 the theater changed to the first movie theater in Nara city.
Historical materials related to playhouse and movie of the theater are displayed.

The historical materials stored in the museum will be exhibited as follows.
1.The Nara calendar
(Exhibition period: September 4 - September 30, 2018)
The Nara calendar of the Edo period which Onmyoji in Nara-machi devised will be introduced.
Onmyoji is a professional practitioner of the Japanese esoteric cosmology.

2.Picture drawing of Kofukuji Temple
(Exhibition period: October 2 - October 14, 2018)
The map of Kofukuji Temple depicted in the Edo period will be introduced.
In addition, the completion ceremony of Chukondo Hall will be held from 7th to 11th October in Kofukuji Temple.
3.Tsukigase Baikei (plum-grove park)
(Exhibition period: March 5 - March 31, 2018)
Works and information map depicting the Tsukigase area will be introduced.
In addition, the Festival called Tsukigase Baikei Ume Matsuri is held from late February to the end of March every year in Tsukigase.
